The Historical regatta of Venetian rowing, existing in Venice for several thousand years, is the very important sport event in the city.
The program of the regatta includes several races, the most exciting of which is race of small sports gondolas.
Today the regatta is especially famous for colorful historical parade on Grand Canal, opening the event. The parade are dozens of boats with gondoliers, the Doge with his wife and officials, dressed in costumes of Venetian republic.
This performance looks incredibly impressive, creating the illusion of immersion in that far past of Venice, when it was one of the richest and most powerful of the Mediterranean marine republics.
